What are Mesotherapy Treatments?
Mesotherapy is a popular and highly customisable non-surgical cosmetic procedure that involves the delivery of a combination of compounds into the skin by tiny, micro injections with very fine needs or stamping devices. We can formulate tailored ingredients including anti-wrinkle drugs, light dermal fillers, vitamins, hormones, plant extracts, cosmetic compounds and enzymes depending on the needs of your skin.
Mesotherapy, as we currently know it, was conceived in France in 1952 by Dr Michel Pistor to manage painful medical conditions, but it’s history does back to Hippocrates in 400BC.
There is confusion about Mesotherapy as a cosmetic treatment due to the fact this is not really the name of one treatment for any particular concern, but a name of a method of drug delivery.
Mesotherapy treatments, like many other cosmetic treatments, were first designed for traditional medicine have been reinvented for aesthetic purposes.
How Mesotherapy Treatments work
Like many other treatments, Mesotherapy has two modes of function. Very superficial injections of medications using specialized short needles delivery a combination of active ingredients: compounds including anti-wrinkle and dermal filler compounds to smooth and plump the skin, Plant extracts and cosmetic compounds to improve skin texture, colour and tone. These compounds will be chosen with the patient’s skin concerns in mind and because they are delivered direct through the skin surface, the action will be efficient.
Because there could be many tiny injections delivered in a treatment, the treatment area will experience a natural healing function as we see with micro-needling, and resulting boost of collagen and elastin production. So we can anticipate increased skin firmness, improvement to any scars or irregularities, more even skin texture and colour, and a glow to skin.
Why we use Mesotherapy Treatment
A topical anaesthetic is applied before treatment, so the treatment is very comfortable and quite fast – usually under an hour. Mesotherapy is easily combined in a patient’s usual skincare routine, and, as a number of treatments will be required for best results, patients usually commit to a regular or a course of treatments: usually 4 to 8.
The downtime is dependent on what condition is being treated. For general skin rejuvenation, patients can expect very little or no downtime.
